Jack and Dorothy Flaherty opened Flaherty Jewelers in 1947. Jack was a watchmaker with Elgin Watch Company and enjoyed the art of jewelry repair and design. Dorothy added style and grace to everything in the store. Both felt that the key to business is to treat all others how you would like to be treated.
Mike and Sharon Flaherty joined the business in 1979 with the news of Jack's cancer. They both trained in gemological education soon after their arrival, but mostly learned from Jack and Dorothy. Katie Flaherty joined the family business in 2001 and is currently Vice President of the corporation. She had been studying in the fields of Gemology and Jewelry Manufacturing at the world-renowned Gemological Institute of America in Carlsbad, CA.
In 2006, Flaherty Jewelers oversaw a major remodeling project which included moving the store's front entrance back to the corner were it had been in the 1940s. The new layout and décor reflect Katie's influence while maintaining the tradition of over 60 years of the family's business.
While the Flaherty family founded and is the namesake of the business, Flaherty Jewelers likes to focus on the family at Flaherty Jewelers and not just the "Flaherty family." We are incredibly fortunate have a talented and knowledgeable family.
Linda Parenti has been a member of Flaherty Jewelers since 2003. Her honesty and sensitivity is a perfect addition to the family. The fact that she loves jewelry helps her fit right in, too! Julie Mitchell, our office manager, has retail experience that's given her the expertise to control our office with a smile!
Edgar Marcello is our master jeweler and goldsmith. Marcello first learned to hand fabricate chain at the age of 13. Since then he’s studied the art of watchmaking and is now a highly skilled goldsmith with over forty years of experience. He loves a challenge!
Joann Suzuki started with Flaherty's in 2003 while in high school. She worked when possible while finishing her bachelor of arts degree in communications from Concordia University. Jo joined our family as a full time employee in 2012 specializing in inventory control and social marketing.
Flaherty Jewelers is also proud of their community activities and recognition. Mike and Sharon's recently were honored with the Business Leader Heart of Gold award from the Village of Arlington Heights. Katie Flaherty has been a part of the Economic Alliance of Arlington Heights, a coordinator for the Frontier Days Festival, and on the board of directors for the Downtown Business Association.
